St. Vincent's School
A Specialist School for Sensory Impairment and Other Needs
Music
Here at St Vincent’s, the Music curriculum provides pupils with visual and sensory impairments a powerful way to express themselves, connect with others, and explore the world around them. Fully aligned to the National Curriculum, our Music curriculum is carefully adapted to ensure every learner can engage in listening, performing, and creating through inclusive and accessible approaches.
For pupils who are visually impaired, the development of auditory awareness is especially important, supporting not only musical progress but also key skills in orientation, communication, and independence.
Our vision is for pupils to experience joy and achievement through music-making, whether by using their voice, instruments, technology, or movement. Lessons are designed to be multisensory and inclusive, using rhythm, sound, and tactile resources to ensure that barriers to participation are reduced. Music nurtures creativity, confidence, and collaboration, while also fostering focus, memory, and resilience that can be applied across other areas of learning.
Music at St Vincent’s is about more than performance: it is about empowering pupils to explore sound as a tool for communication and self-expression, building skills that will enrich their lives within and beyond the classroom.
