St. Vincent's School
A Specialist School for Sensory Impairment and Other Needs
History
At our school, History inspires pupils with visual and sensory impairments to connect with the past in ways that are meaningful, accessible, and engaging. We believe that every learner should have the opportunity to explore significant people, events, and cultures, while developing curiosity, empathy, and a sense of identity.
Using Kapow at Key Stage 2 and Boost Learning at Key Stage 3, we deliver a structured and progressive curriculum that is adapted to meet the diverse needs of our pupils. Lessons are multisensory and inclusive, making use of tactile resources, storytelling, auditory materials, and practical experiences to bring the past to life and ensure all pupils can participate fully.
Our vision is for pupils to enjoy History, to build knowledge and vocabulary, and to develop enquiry skills that help them make connections between the past and the present. Ultimately, History at our school broadens horizons, fosters cultural awareness, and values each pupil’s unique abilities, ensuring that they see themselves as part of an ongoing story.
