Harvest Festival Celebrations

October 12th, 2011

As a focus for our Harvest Festival Celebration this year, we have chosen The Global FoodBanking Network. FoodBanking helps to alleviate world hunger. They do this by supporting food banks and food bank networks where they exist, and by working collaboratively to create them in communities where they are needed. You may recently have seen this on the television as a news item.

We would like the children to bring into School items of tinned food. We will celebrate our Harvest Festival on Friday 14th October and all donations will be displayed in the School Chapel. We will then distribute the items.

To raise awareness and encourage participation perhaps your child could do an extra job at home and buy a tin of food with their own money.

eg washing the dishes – 1 tin of beans

tidying bedroom – 1 tin of tomatoes

Thank you in anticipation.

Wildflower Centre

October 10th, 2011

Last week Year 10 visited the Wildflower Centre in Knowsley to find out about their volunteering programme as part of their Work Related Learning. Many thanks to Gill from the centre for arranging for the students to chat with Pauline, a long serving volunteeer. Pauline delivered an extremely informative session, providing the young people with many ideas for gaining work related learning experiences.

Sponsored Triathlon Event, 2011

October 10th, 2011

We are planning to hold a Triathlon event, (Running/Walking & Swimming), to raise money for Christmas Parcels, for the elderly in our Community.

This event will take place during PE lessons, in the week starting 10th October.

We would be extremely grateful if you could support this venture by using the form sent home to gain sponsors for your son / daughter.

This is an occasion when we ask our pupils to put their own needs aside and to do something for others. Please help them in this worthwhile venture.

It would aid us if any money raised could be sent to school, and passed in to
Mr P. Gillon or Mrs Wolstenholme by Friday 11th November.

Many thanks for your continued support.

IEP Targets

September 28th, 2011

Pupils will bring home letters on friday regarding the update of Individual Education Plans for all pupils in the school.

The IEP targets reflect general key skills, which will be of use across the whole curriculum. The targets are not for specific subjects. Subject targets are set throughout the year and are noted in this term’s Annual Review reports. Pupils have helped to devise their own targets with Form teachers, LSAs and, in some cases, Care Staff.

Parental suggestions are welcome. Please return the reply slip if you want to make any comments or suggestions.

We set 3 targets per term.

Targets may be drawn from the four following broad areas:

  • Literacy
  •  Numeracy
  • Communication skills
  • Behavior

These are nationally agreed criteria for IEPs.

However, at St Vincent’s we have also devised specific targets for

  •  Visual Impairment.

Copies of IEPs are sent home, as it is important that we work together on achieving these goals. Targets are assessed at the end of the IEP term.

If you wish to suggest a target for your child, please return the slip to the form teacher by Monday 3rd October 2011. Furthermore, if you have any queries about this letter, or about your child’s IEP, please contact: Mrs J Armstrong at the school.

A Better Shopping Experience

September 26th, 2011

Pupils from St. Vincent’s were recently invited to test out Braille signage at the Sainsbury’s store in Woolton.

The RNIB and local blind organisations have been working together to create signs that provide Visually Impaired shoppers with a better shopping experience. See full article at www.liverpoolecho.com
