Key Stage 2
Pupils aged 7 to 11 years old. Iin Year 3 to Year 6 of school.
Our young people have access to a full and
balanced curriculum. The Programmes of
Study outlined in the National Curriculum are
followed for all the core and foundation subjects.
Although the content of the New National
Strategies are used, the strategies themselves
are organised to suit the needs of the
children.
Adaptations are made depending on the visual,
physical and intellectual needs of the
child. At the end of the key stage the children
are either assessed using the National Standard
Assessment Tests (SATS) or by teacher
assessment.
Our young people follow the religious education
syllabus prescribed by the Archdiocese
of Liverpool known as ‘Here I Am’. A week is
devoted each term to the exploration of other
world faiths.
Personal, Social and Health Education
(PSHE) and Citizenship are taught both in
specific lesson times and also through other
subjects and at social times of the school
day.
Music, PE (including swimming), French, Information Technology/Word Processing, Library Studies and Mobility may be delivered by specialist staff.
For those young people who need it, physiotherapy, speech and language, and music therapy is available.
One-to-one teaching situations are devised for those children who need close supervision when encountering new concepts and skills. Reinforcement and consolidation work takes place in the context of small groupings.
Our young people are exposed to a myriad of experiences to ensure that as much as possible concepts and ideas are accurately formed in their minds. Visits and outings are an important part of this endeavour, as is the participation of visitors. We have positive links with local mainstream schools to widen and enrich pupil experience.
High achievement is encouraged and supported by the whole school merit point system in order to reward high standards of behaviour, attitude and work. Parents are invited to share these ideas and offer support and encouragement to their children.
Across the Foundation Stage and throughout Key Stage 1 and 2 the school's Mission Statement is the backbone of all the values that we promote in class.
