Geography

Geography at KS3 builds on skills and themes developed in the KS2 Programme of Study.

At KS3 pupils will:

  • investigate people, places and environments at different scales around the world.
  • explore geographical patterns and processes, and how political, economical, social and environmental factors affect contemporary geographical issues.
  • learn how places and environments are interdependent.
  • make geographical enquiry inside and outside the classroom.
  • identify geographical questions
  • collect and analyse written and statistical evidence
  • develop their own opinions.

The National Curriculum Programme recommends that pupils should use a wide range of geographical skills and resources such as maps, satellite images and ICT.

However, by the very nature of Visual Impairment, these skills are often more difficult to acquire, so other methods are also produced. At KS3 the majority of pupils are expected to work between levels 3-6, with an expected attainment at age 14 of level 5/6. Assessment is through pupil performance within the geography level descriptions.
